Reading Recovery

Reading Recovery has been implemented at Tuncurry Public School since 1999.  The program allows students in our Year One classes, who are clearly at risk in literacy learning, the opportunity to reach grade level through an individual program.

Reading Recovery provides each child with an individually designed program in reading and writing.  Each child works alone with the Reading Recovery Teacher (Mrs Watson) for thirty minutes each day for between 12-20 weeks.  Reading Recovery is an early literacy intervention program designed to support students identified as experiencing reading and writing difficulties after their first year of school.  It is planned alongside the class literacy program.   

The Reading Recovery Program is a partnership with the child, parents, the class teacher and the Reading Recovery teacher all working together.

Daily attendance in this program and reading at home is important so the child can achieve maximum benefits.

Mrs Watson attends professional development meetings with other Reading Recovery teachers in the region twice a term for support and further training.
